08 - Cross the wires
For me this song is driving music, the idea here is for a real pushing guitar that riffs like a full on steam train coming at you. I am really pleased with the passion
that is captured in the recording (it is so easy to lose the ‘life that a song contains live’ when it’s being recorded down). The guitars really strive forward all the time & the vocals take on a strong presence, wanting to really grab the lyrics with attitude. A lot of punch was the mantra for this one, trying to get the end product to be full of impact like a powerhouse of force at times & then simmering down at others.
Lyrically the first half is reflecting on the times when things get on top of you & it all seems too much. The ‘Crossing of wires’ is contemplating how often things aren’t as bad as your head perceives – the ‘getting of knickers in a twist’ so to speak. The second half is the regaining of confidence due to the epiphany that you are still the same old you & all the rest is fundamentally immaterial & the renewed vigour of this coming through you like a bullet train tearing up the tracks.
Cross the wires by John Fisher - lyrics
Have you ever crossed the wires
Where desires always ring true
And feelings that you believed in
Are revealing all about you
Where fears that grow now
Are all gone now
Fears that grow now
Are all gone
Got to find the time to get life some perspective scale
And stop walking away now
Before it’s all gone
Taking all your time to find and feed the flavours you like
Simply filling your mind now
Taking all that you want
So stand aside I’m feeling like a train
But I cannot shake my foot upon the brakes
And as the tracks run dry
I fear I may fall
Everybody’s going to have a day
Where the sun don’t shine
And the rain falls down
Catching your face
And your fears have gone now
All gone now
The fears that have grown now
They are all gone
So stand aside I’m feeling like a train
But I cannot shake my foot upon the brakes
And as the tracks run dry
I fear I may fall
Everybody’s going to have a day
Where the sun don’t shine
And the rain falls down
Catching your face
So could you ever cross your wires
Where desires always ring true
And feelings that you believed in
Are revealing all about you
